WESTFIELD – To show their appreciation, some businesses will mail out a flyer advertising deals to frequent customers or will provide a small item to show their thanks.
But Sam LaPorte, owner of LaPorte Farm Equipment Inc. in Westfield, took things one step further.
Instead of mailing out a notice about an exclusive deal, LaPorte, along with his family and employees, held a luncheon for his valued customers. The event, now in its 15th year, featured a meal including roast beef, potatoes and green beans and the chance to win a number of prizes.
Visitors also had the chance to look at the newest farm equipment available at the business.
“Basically, we clean up the facilities and show all the latest and greatest brands,” LaPorte said. “It’s a little event to show our appreciation to our customers.”
On hand for the celebration were County Executive Greg Edwards, Chautauqua County Legislature Chairman Fred Croscut and Doug Richmond, the county legislator who represents Westfield. Edwards said he was excited to talk to customers of the business and said he was looking forward to spring finally arriving, which would allow those attending the event to be able to use their equipment.
Stressing how the economy has negatively impacted farmers, Edwards said the county must work to help current farmers and to bring more people into the profession.
“LaPorte’s can help people do that (enter into farming),” Edwards said. “I like that they work on giving back.”
In brief comments delivered to the visitors at the business, Edwards said he would be willing to help farmers with any issues which may arise.
“My office is always open to you,” he told those gathered.
