The Tuesday, March 15th, 2011 Village Elections will be conducted by the Chautauqua County Board of Elections for the first time. The change was prompted by a state law which requires the use of optical scan paper ballots for all village elections.
However, nothing else has changed. Voting for Westfield Village elections will still take place at Eason Hall from 12 noon until 9 p.m. on Tuesday, March 15th, 2011. Election Inspectors and a poll site coordinator will be in attendance to assist with the process.
If you have not registered to vote, please do so at the Chautauqua County Board of Elections Office. To be eligible to vote in Village elections, you must be at least 18 years of age, a citizen of the US and reside in the Village of Westfield at least 30 days prior to the Village election date.
You may qualify for an Absentee Ballot if you:
Will not be in Chautauqua County on Election day; are temporarily ill or have a physical disability; have a permanent illness or physical disability; have duties related to the primary care of one or more individuals who are ill or physically disabled; are a patient or inmate in a Veterans’ Administration Hospital; or you are detained in jail/prison, awaiting trail, awaiting action by a grand jury, or you are in prison for a conviction of a crime or offense which was not a felony on village election day, you may fill out an absentee ballot application and submit it to the County Board of Elections at their Mayville office in the Hall R. Clothier Building, 7 N. Erie Street, Mayville, NY 14757.
Please note that if you plan on mailing in your Absentee Ballot, your application for an Absentee Ballot must be received by the County Board of Elections by Tuesday, March 8, 2011. If you plan on applying in person for an Absentee Ballot, the last day to do this is March 14th. In either case, the Absentee Ballots must be received on Tuesday, March 15, 2011, Election Day.
Those of you who may have already filled out an absentee ballot application by downloading it from the County’s website should make sure that it was mailed to Mayville.
On Friday, February 11, 2011, we noticed that the back of the Absentee Ballot application form under “instructions” had the Dunkirk, NY zip code. The address for all absentee ballot applications should be sent to the Mayville, NY address as provided above with the 14757 zip code. The County Board informed us that the website form has been changed. If you are concerned, please contact the County Board of Elections at the number provided.
Thank you and remember to exercise your right to vote on Tuesday, March 15, 2011.
