WMH?Holds Retirement Party For CEO

February 4, 2011
Westfield Republican / Mayville Sentinel News
Westfield Memorial Hospital staff, associates, hospital board members, medical staff, foundation board members and auxiliary board members gathered on Jan. 26 to honor president and chief executive officer C. Angela Bontempo. The celebration was held at the McClurg Museum, home of the Chautauqua County Historical Society in Westfield.

During her three years as president and CEO of Westfield Memorial Hospital and nine years at Saint Vincent Health System, Ms. Bontempo’s commitment to serving Chautauqua County and Erie residents was unprecedented. She came to Westfield Memorial Hospital during a three-year battle with the state of New York to keep the hospital open. It was her efforts that directed the “team” to work with the Department of Health to make the case for Westfield Memorial Hospital to keep the emergency room and remain a hospital.

With her tenacity and knowledge of New York State Health Care as well as a complete understanding of the communities the hospital serves and the needs of the residents of all of these communities she was successful in leading the campaign to keep Westfield Memorial Hospital a viable and functioning center of health care delivery in this area of Chautauqua County, said WMH board chair Helen Baran.

Her influence has also extended far beyond Westfield Memorial Hospital and Saint Vincent Health System through her leadership in professional organizations, service on boards of many community organizations and membership in Catholic health care organizations, including” Pennsylvania Catholic Health Care Association Board (presently the chair); Hospital and Healthcare Association of Pennsylvania Board of Directors; Diocese of Erie Finance Council; Erie Chamber and Growth Partnership; United Way of Erie County Board of Directors; Vantage Board of Directors; WNY Hospital Association Board of Directors; Chautauqua County Health Network; Westfield Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees; and M&T Bank Corporation Board of Directors and Chair of Audit & Risk Committee.

Over 60 people gathered at the beautiful and historic McClurg Museum and enjoyed delicious food and libations catered by Chef Tim Murphy of Brick Village Gourmet, Chef William Cornelius and Noble Winery.
