The contribution will be used to assist women who are no longer eligible for services through the CSP due to New York State budget cuts.
“One hundred percent of this donation will stay right here in Chautauqua County, said Angela Swartzman, CSP program coordinator, “The funds will be used to help locals who are in need of cancer care. We often look to fundraising to help people that our program can no longer cover due to state budget cuts. We never want to turn anyone away because of the lack of funding.”
The donation reflects the proceeds of FairPoint’s Annual Employee Charity Golf Tournament that was held on September 18, 2010 at Point Chautauqua Golf Course. As is the tournament tradition, the winning team selects the charity of their choice to receive the tournament proceeds. This year’s winning team was comprised of Brian and Lisa Fochtman and Steve and Luann Wright. The CSP was contacted by Steve Wright to inquire about the program.
“As soon as I found out the money would be used locally I was certain we chose the right program,” said Wright.
The CSP, funded by the New York State Department of Health and administered by the Chautauqua County Health Department, provides free mammograms, pap tests and colon tests to those with little or no medical insurance in Chautauqua County. To qualify individuals must meet the following guidelines; women age 40 or older and men age 50 and older or younger if you have immediate family history of breast, cervical or colorectal cancer. In addition the program covers treatment should cancer be detected.
