Westfield Lanes & Dining announces grand opening

WESTFIELD - Under new ownership, the Westfield Lanes & Dining announces its Grand Opening Celebration for Memorial Weekend – May 28-30, 2010.  Shawn and Rachel Brewer, previous owners of Westfield’s Shawn & Rachel’s, are re-vitalizing this local landmark.

People who grew up in this area have most likely experienced the bowling alley’s original wood lanes and its great food.  “We’re restoring and re-surfacing the lanes and upgrading our equipment while retaining its historical vintage past,” states Brewer.

The lanes will be restored this summer to ensure readiness for sanctioned league play this fall, including the Saturday youth leagues.  “We’re also replacing the ball returns with a new sub-ground system and giving the whole place a new ‘vintage’ look,” says Brewer.

The Brewers are also accomplished in the kitchen, as those who have been to the previous Shawn & Rachel’s know.  A patron can still get the ‘ultimate sandwich,’ daily fish fry, and other home-style dinner specialties.  And for dessert?

Westfield Lanes and Dining is now the exclusive provider in Westfield of Perry’s Ice Cream, carrying 60 of Perry’s flavors.  Soft-serve is also available, serving only old-fashioned soft-serve custard.  With its new ice cream corner, services are available from within the restaurant or from an outside walk-up window.

The Brewers believe in giving back to the community, too.  For example, uniformed little league baseball teams that come for ice cream after a game throughout the summer will receive a kid’s-size cone free of charge.

Shawn Brewer is a life-long native of Westfield, born and raised, and a frequent visitor to the bowling alley while growing up.  He became a regional professional bowler, making it to the national pro bowler circuit.  The day before his national debut, however, Brewer’s professional career was altered by a tragic automobile accident.  So, he and his wife are renewing the bowling dream by restoring life back to the Westfield lanes.

With all the changes, one thing remains constant.  A three-game series is only $7.50 ($2.50/game) and only $1 for shoe rental, if needed.  And, anyone interested in forming a league is encouraged to contact Westfield Lanes & Dining during its open hours – 11:00am-9:00pm.  Late leagues are also available for scheduling.

Westfield Lanes & Dining is located on US Route 20, only two miles east of the Village of Westfield.  For more information, contact Shawn or Rachel Brewer at 716-326-2695 (BOWL).
