Misty Ridge Landscaping under new ownership

WESTFIELD - For Rob Cochran, the owner of the Midway Garden Center in Maple Springs, Good Friday really was a good Friday.

On that day, the Westfield native officially closed the deal to purchase Misty Ridge Landscaping from previous owner Jim Mason.

“Four or five years ago, we originally discussed me purchasing the business and, for whatever reason, it didn’t work out,” Cochran said. “Most recently, I?brought it back up and everything worked out right.”

Cochran, who has worked for and managed the business prior to purchasing it, said he will continue to run the business out of Mason’s home until he can relocate it to the garden center. Then, Cochran hopes to turn his business into a larger garden center, complete with landscaping services, bulk materials such as mulch, supplies and a meeting room where potential customers can discuss ideas with the business’s staff.

“Slowly, but surely we’ll be able to be a whole garden center with landscaping,” Cochran said.

With around eight employees, Cochran knows Misty Ridge Landscaping will stay busy, especially in the upcoming summer months.

“We take care of at least a couple hundred, solid customers a year,” Cochran said. “We take care of about 80 homes in the Chautauqua Institution, multiple 30 unit condominium complexes. We have tons of customers in the Westfield, Brocton, Mayville, Chautauqua and Bemus Point areas.

One thing customers may like about Misty Ridge Landscaping, Cochran said, is the presence of its owner at every project.

“A difference, and I think a real key thing that separates me from some other people, is that we’re small,” he said. “You’ll find me on every job. On every single installation project, I’m there from beginning to end, and on the maintenence work you’ll see me on most jobs as well. I think people like that. They like to see the owner and talk to the person in charge. I think that’s what allows us to have a real, high-quality product in the end.”

Misty Ridge Landscaping can be reached by calling 326-4765, 716-269-9488 or by e-mailing The business offers complete lawn care and maintenence as well as plowing in the winter and work on other specialized projects.

“It’s always been my goal to own a landscaping company. Landscaping is always what I wanted to do,”Cochran said. “I’d like to get that image going where people know there’s more than on company in the area to offer services.”
