WESTFIELD – Darren “Butch” Buck is a busy man, but that’s fine with him.
It means his business is doing well.
Buck, a Brocton resident, is the owner of Westfield Auto Center, located in the former Murry Price Pontiac repair shop on Route 20 in Westfield. And, while he has only been at his current location for a little more than seven weeks, Buck is pleased with the way things have turned out.
“Even in the short time I’ve been here, it seems like I’ve done everything,” Buck said. “Business has been really good. I’ve been really busy. I’ve got a big following. I’ve been around cars for thirty years, and I’ve worked for some big dealerships.”
Buck has worked as a mechanic at Murry Price and LaPorte Chevrolet, as well as working on his own fleet of vehicles. When the opportunity to purchase to the Murry Price service center came up, Buck knew he had to have it.
“I always liked this building,” he said. “I like the way it’s laid out. It’s big and there’s a lot of room. I bought it because my garage at home wasn’t big enough and I didn’t have a lift at home. I thought I could better myself by buying this.”
While Buck is hoping to have his inspection equipment up and running shortly, he said he is available to work on a number of car-related issues.
“I do pretty much anything,” he said, “from engines to transmissions to tune-ups, emissions testing. I do a lot with tires and brakes.”
And, even though he lives in Brocton, Buck said he wants to give back to the community as much as possible, including helping out local charities, schools and organizations. He also picked the colors of his signs – blue and white – to match the school colors of Westfield Academy and Central School.
“I try to give back to the community a little bit,” Buck said. “I don’t live in Westfield, but the reason why my signs are the colors they are is because they are the school’s colors. I try to tie the business into the community even though I don’t really live here.”
