New wedding shop opens in Sherman

February 11, 2010
By Dennis Phillips

SHERMAN - For those looking for an all-in-one shop to help plan a wedding, there is a new location in Sherman that should attract your attention.

Miss Laura’s Place, 129 W. Main St., Sherman, is a new business that specializes in photography, cake decorating and flower arrangements for all occasions. Laura Eidens, owner, said she has 14 years experience doing professional studio portraits and has been preparing and decorating cakes for family and friends for a long time as well. All that was left to do was add flowers so she could open her own store.

‘’I decided to make a career out of my hobbies,’’ she said. ‘’I love flowers. I have worked 14 years doing portraits for a studio and cake-making has been a hobby of mine I did for friends and family. It was just the right time to open a business. It seemed like the right thing to do.’’

So far, Miss Eiden said she loves her new career, mixing her passions as a business owner. She said cakes are made to order for all occasions.

‘’I have made birthday cakes from princess castle cakes to trains and just about everything in between,’’ she said. ‘’I also have made baby shower, bridal shower and wedding cakes. One of the specialty cakes that I make is strawberry with strawberry filling. People gobble it up.’’

Flowers can be arranged for all occasions - holidays, birthdays, weddings, funerals and anniversaries.

‘’I have fresh flowers, silk arraignments, plants, gift baskets, balloons, cards and many more gifts,’’ she said. ‘’I have some frames, some unique hand-painted signs, pots, baby gift baskets, get well baskets, handmade cards and more in my shop.’’

As for photos, Miss Eiden said she takes pictures of baby milestones, senior pictures, family portraits and wedding pictures.

‘’I am set up to take indoor studio pictures and outside pictures,’’ she said.

The store also sells Brick Village Gourmet dressings and various other products in the store, with local delivery available.

Miss Eiden has St. Valentine’s Day specials as well with a cookie bouquet with two balloons for $10.99 or a dozen roses for $35. She said the specials run through Thursday. People can pre-order by calling 708-9354 to ensure availability and timely delivery.

The store, which is next to the Morse Hotel, is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
