PORT CHARLOTTE, FL - Angelyn Ingram Hammer, 88, formerly of Westfield and Chautauqua died Thursday, December 10, 2009 at the Tidewell Hospice and Palliative Care in Port Charlotte, Florida.She was born October 3, 1921 in Trenton, Tennessee. She graduated from Dresden High School in Dresden, TN in 1939 and from Vanderbilt University in 1943. She also did graduate work at the University of Michigan, SUNY Fredonia and Syracuse University. She married Roger Hammer of Jamestown, NY in 1946 and moved to Westfield in 1949. Angelyn was an elementary school teacher at Westfield Central School for 20 years retiring in 1977. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Westfield, serving as both deacon and elder. She sang in the church choir for many years and taught Sunday school. Angelyn served on the boards of the Westfield YMCA and the Westfield Hospital Auxiliary. She was a member of the Westfield Garden Club, Union Relief Association and the Chautauqua County Historical Society, and worked as a volunteer for Westfield Hospital and the Community Kitchen. Angelyn was preceded in death by her husband who died on December 19, 2000. She is survived by her loving children, her daughter, Margaret Angelyn Patteson of Port Charlotte, FL; her son, Roger E. Hammer of Alexandria, VA; 5 grandchildren, Roger Hammer, III, Aubrey Schmalle, Michael Hammer, Elizabeth Rehberg and Andrew Patteson and one great-grandchild, Haley Schmalle. A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Westfield, New York at 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 9, 2010 Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church in Westfield, South Portage Street, Westfield, NY 14787 or Tidewell Hospice and Palliative Care, 5955 Rand Blvd. Sarasota, FL 34238 The Freay Funeral Home in Mayville, NY is in charge of arrangements.
