But don’t worry, there is help available.
Silk Purse Income Tax Service, owned and operated by Molly Catalano, will be available to help individuals complete their taxes, answer questions or look up information.
“I’m planning on starting the first of January,” Ms. Catalano said, “but if people want to call before then, I can certainly start. Tax season I will be devoting to taxes.”
Located at 41 East Main Street, Westfield, Ms. Catalano has 20 years of tax and accounting experience. She is also well versed in tax forms, preparing and reviewing tax submissions and tax-related computer programs such as QuickBooks.
“I have been doing tax preparation since 1990, making this season my 20th year,” Ms. Catalano said. “I have been a lifelong Westfield resident and plan on giving my clients long-term, professional, quality service.”
Ms. Catalano said she is also an enrolled agent, which means she has proven that she is proficient in tax-related matters.
“In order to become an enrolled agent, one must show proficiency in tax matters, either by virtue of having worked for the IRS or by passing a multi-part test,” she said. “The test covers individual and business situations as well as ethics and procedures.”
Even if she has questions herself, Ms. Catalano said she has an extensive and diverse network of other tax professionals who can help.
“I do have other people if I need advice on something,” she said. “I’ve got good friends in the business. It’s not like I’m on my own with nobody to help if I need it.”
