PORTLAND - It is time to order your December Angel Food. The December menu is packed with great things to make special gift boxes or baskets for friends and family. Why not give the gift of some wonderful fruits, meats and cheeses to some of those folks on your list this year? With the economy tight this is a great way to stretch your gift giving dollars this year.





There are three boxes that will help do just that: The Fresh Fruit and Veggie box for $22 has potatoes, sweet potatoes, onion, cabbage, carrots, celery, lemons, oranges, grapefruit, mango, avocado and kiwi. The Assorted Holiday Fruit Special for $26 has grapefruit, organs, tangerines, five kinds of delicious apples, pears and even some candy to dress up that basket or box. Then add some meat and cheese from the Holiday Meat and Cheese special for just $18 with beef summer sausage, beef salami, and summer sausage, along with cheddar, Swiss and Smokey chesses. You can make many specials gifts combining these boxes.





The Signature Box with New York strip steaks, boneless pork roast, chicken breast fajita strips, ground beef, chicken breast tenders, fish sticks, center cut ham, lima beans, french fries, apples, tortillas, shelf stable milk, eggs and a dessert would be a great holiday gift this season for $30.





For that someone in your life that has food allergies, the Allergen free box for $23 is a great deal. We have had great reports from folks to struggle with food allergies and other food related diseases.





The Senior Convenience meals for $28 has 10 prepared meals that may be microwaved for those who find it hard to prepare meals or those on the run or living by themselves. Good food complete with dessert is a great supplement to meals on wheels or other programs.





There are three more specials this month: the 6 lb assorted meat grill box with T-bones, bacon wrapped hamburger steaks, pork chops and mild Italian sausage with cheese for $22, the 4.5 lb steak combo box for $21 contains rib-eye steaks and sirloin strip steaks, and last but not least is the 10 lb IQF Unbreaded Poultry Box for $20 with Cornish hens, spit chicken breast, chicken thigh quarters, and chicken tenders.





There are a number of Angel Food Host Sites in Chautauqua and Cattaraugus counties, as well as Erie County, Pa. Call for a referral to the host site nearest you and further information. West Portland Baptist Church is one of the area host sites. Their office hours are Dec. 3 from 1-4 p.m. and Dec. 7 from 9-11 a.m. The order deadline for our site is Dec. 7 at 11 a.m.





The distribution will be Dec. 12 from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Remember to bring your box, basket or insulated bags to carry your food home in. Remember, too, that most food comes in frozen so your promptness is vital to your enjoyment of great food.





The West Portland Host Site will accept your cash, check, money order or food stamps. You must come to the church during the office hours above to use food stamps.
