Afionis, Barber Wed In Greece

Kristen Ellen Barber and Charalmpos Afionis were united in marriage at 7:00 pm on June 27, 2009 at the chapel of Agios Minas in Fira, Santorini, Greece.  The ceremony was performed in Greek by Father Mathaios Baroutis.  The bride is the daughter of Craig and Lisa Barber of Westfield, NY.  The groom is the son of Stellios Afionis and the late Evaggelia Afionis of Athens, Greece.


The bride was escorted to the church by her father, mother, sisters and traditional Greek musicians.  The bride wore an ivory A-line Grecian inspired gown.


The koumbaroi, religious sponsors, were Evaggelia Sabani (friend) of Athens, Greece and Marios Symeonidis (friend) also of Athens, Greece.  Bridesmaids were Stephanie Barber (sister) of Orlando, FL, Leah Barber (sister) of Westfield, NY, and Chelsea Barber (sister) of Westfield, NY.  Fotini Vanikioti (niece) of Athens, Greece was the flower girl.


A sunset cocktail hour followed the ceremony on the chapel terrace overlooking the caldera.  The reception was held at Anemos on Perivolos Beach.


The bride graduated from Westfield Academy and Central School, Binghamton University, NY and the University of Bradford, England.  The groom graduated from First Lyceum Peristeri, Greece; I.I.E.K. Omega, Greece; Stafford University, England and the University of Bradford, England.  The couple resides in Athens, Greece.
