Time Warner Cable launches Powerboost
June 3, 2009
BUFFALO — Time Warner Cable, the second-largest cable operator in the U.S., has announced the launch of PowerBoost, a new technology that allows Road Runner Standard customers to temporarily experience download speeds that are double the current speed of the already fast Road Runner. PowerBoost is a powerful new enhancement that gives bursts of speeds, up to 19Mbps for Road Runner Turbo, when downloading files or gaming at no additional cost. PowerBoost is a change to the cable modem configuration file that allows customers additional speed when downstream bandwidth is available. This new technology will enable Road Runner customers to see improved performance when loading Web pages, as well as downloading big files such as videos, music and photos even faster than before. PowerBoost is built into Road Runner Standard and Turbo services; there’s no extra charge for the extra speed and it activates automatically when bandwidth is available, making it easy to use. “At Time Warner Cable we are always working on new technological advances and product enhancements to bring the best services and value to our customers, and PowerBoost is yet another such example,” said Terence Rafferty, regional vice president of operations, Time Warner Cable, WNY Division.
