Dr. Ciancio Heads Organization

Dr. Sebastian G. Ciancio was installed as president of the International Academy of Periodontology at the annual meeting of that organization in Agra, India, recently. Dr. Ciancio was also a featured speaker at that meeting, presenting the topic ‘‘Perio-Chemotherapeutics for the 21st Century.’’ The International Academy of Periodontology was founded in 1985 with the objective to serve as an educational resource in countries with limited resources, and to advance international co-operation with national or international periodontal societies and research groups and appropriate health organizations, promoting international exchange and communications between individuals of all nations. Past meetings of the organization have included dental organizations in Brazil, Slovenia, Switzerland, Union of South Africa, Sweden, Singapore and Australia. Dr. Ciancio is distinguished service professor and chair of the Department of Periodontics and Endodontics at School of Dental Medicine at the University at Buffalo. He also directs the Center for Dental Studies and has contributed to numerous research studies and reports on periodontal disease and dental therapeutics. He is also the editor of the American Dental Associations Guide to Dental Therapeutics and is the recipient of a number of national and international awards. Dr. Ciancio is a graduate of Jamestown High School and is the son of Mrs. Anne Ciancio and the late Anthony Ciancio of Jamestown.
