Great White Shark Pizza To Open In Sherman

May 10, 2009
SHERMAN — The Great White Shark Pizza restaurant located at 111 W. Main St. Sherman will open its doors for the first time at 7 a.m. Monday. Owner Jim Mashark, former owner of Mayshark Builders and now co- owner with Mark Swanson of Bone Creek Development Corporation, says that previously he never thought of having a restaurant but he “bought it for the building.” Vinny Majcrzark, who Jim says plays a big part in the business as a cook, speaks highly of his employer. He stated that wanting the building wasn’t the only reason Jim purchased it. He is a very giving man and is interested in creating jobs for people in the Sherman area. He is also very interested in having the down town buildings preserved and maintained in its original state. Work has already begun on that project. Jim says that John Murphy, who is a grant writer for Chautauqua Home Rehabilitation Improvement Corporation (CHRIC), has written and continues to write grants to raise money for the village of Sherman. “I can’t say enough about all that he has done to help restore this small town as it was 100 years ago. It’s simply incredible!” He also expressed his appreciation and thanks to the numerous people that have stopped in to encourage him and even offered to help while the building was being completely refurbished. Rhonda Whitehead is the manager for the new restaurant. She is highly qualified having taken food services and then working many years as a manager in various businesses, the most recent being at Peek ‘n Peak where she worked for 25 years, 17 as a manager. She came up with the restaurant’s name using Great for Vinny, White for Rhonda and Shark for Jim. Being a friendly “home town” gal. She fits in very well with the Great White Shark Pizza’s desire to offer kid-friendly family dining at an affordable cost. The menu will include pizzas, subs, salads, chicken wings and thighs, sandwiches, fish fries and daily specials. Vinny, who previously owned and operated a restaurant, has been employed as cook in various places over the years and presently works nights at Andriaccio‘s Restaurant in Chautauqua. Marlene Olson, Noah Achenbach and Amber Kochanowski will also be cooks. All of the employees live in the Sherman area. The Great White Shark restaurant will be open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday; 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Sunday. Delivery services will be available 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Saturday and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday Not only will one savor the tasty food at the Great White Shark Pizza, they will also enjoy the family orientedÈdecor. The south wall in the building depicts the Amish countryside in the Sherman area. Artist Anna Weaver created it. Although she had used her talent to paint other pictures such as saw blades and china, it was her first mural. Sherman high school art teacher Tammy Hawkins designed the logo, menu, aprons and shirts for the restaurant. She is also directing the Sherman high school art students in painting a mural on the north wall of the building. For more information on the Great White Shark Restaurant, call 761-6131.
