The bride-elect is a 2001 graduate of Fredonia Central School and earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematics from the University at Buffalo in 2006. Miss Grates received a Master of Science in human genetics from Tulane University in New Orleans, La., in 2007, and is currently a medical student at the University at Buffalo School of Medicine.
Her fiancé, a former Westfield resident, graduated from the Westfield School District in 1999 and studied communications at SUNY Fredonia. He has been employed as a telecommunications engineer at Fairpoint Communications in Westfield since 1998. Mr. Sciarrino, a NYS certified EMT and certified interior firefighter, is a member of and training officer for the East Dunkirk Fire Department.
A summer 2009 wedding is being planned.
