C. Jean Shearer

C. Jean Shearer, age 86, of South Gale Street, Westfield died unexpectedly Thursday, June 26, 2008 at home in Westfield.

Jean was born on February 23, 1922 in Albion, Pa., the daughter of the late Lyle Z. and Blanche B. (Mosier) Tucker. She married Robert E. Shearer of Conneaut, Ohio, on January 8, 1944. They moved to Westfield in 1951. He predeceased her on March 5, 1979.

Jean was an active member of the Westfield First Baptist Church. Her special interest was being a teacher and leader for the MOPS (Mothers of Pre-Schoolers) program. She was active as a volunteer for Hospice, working for the American Red Cross Blood Bank, as a receptionist at the Westfield Memorial Hospital and the YWCA of Westfield. She also volunteered for the Adult Day Care program at the YWCA.

She retired from NW Mutual Life Ins. Co./Bob Owens Agency of Westfield as the Office Manager in 1982.

She is survived by four daughters, Carol (Peter) Best of Westfield, Pamela (Kenneth) Fahnestock of Winchester, Va., Susan “Sue” Shearer of Westfield, Laura (Wilfred Torres) Shearer of Westfield, and by her 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Jean is further survived by her three sisters, Gladys Nye of Greenville, Pa., Dorothy “Daisy” Wilkins of Fairview, Pa., and Shirley Kaufer of Albion, Pa. and by her brother, William Tucker, also of Albion, Pa.

Besides her husband Robert, she was preceded in death by her great-grandson, Brandon Drago.

Burial will be private.
