SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (AP) — A 36-year-old man in prison on drug charges has been indicted in the fatal shooting of an upstate New York man during a party five years ago.
The Daily Gazette of Schenectady reports (http://bit.ly/1fxfbLT ) that Sylvester Young was arraigned Tuesday on second-degree murder charges in the January 2009 slaying of Jumez Lee. Authorities say Young is also charged with assault for wounding a woman during the same shooting.
Young has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Prosecutors say Young and Lee were attending an after-hours birthday party at a Schenectady bar when Young shot Lee in the back of the head.
Young was jailed on unrelated drugs charges days after the shooting and remains incarcerated.
Officials believe the motive for the shooting may have been gang-related.
