SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) — The commander of the New York Army National Guard's famous "Fighting 69th" will give a talk on the book he wrote about the unit's service in the Iraq War.
Maj. Sean Flynn of Delmar will discuss his book Saturday afternoon at the New York State Military Museum in Saratoga Springs.
Flynn was named commander of the New York City-based 1st Battalion, 69th Infantry Regiment in January.
He commanded a company in the 69th when it was deployed to Baghdad in 2004.
In 2007, he authored a book detailing the 69th's deployment to Iraq, "The Fighting 69th: From Ground Zero to Baghdad." The book tells the unit's story from the aftermath of the terrorists attacks on Sept. 11, 2001 to the 69th's mission to secure a dangerous stretch of highway in the Iraqi capital.
