LOCKPORT, N.Y. (AP) — A South Dakota man has pleaded guilty to drunken driving charges stemming from a fatal crash on a western New York Indian reservation last year.

The Niagara Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/1jUTsfw ) that 21-year-old Skyler Zephier pleaded guilty Wednesday in Niagara County Court to charges that included driving while intoxicated, manslaughter and vehicular assault.

Authorities say he was driving a sport utility vehicle that flipped over after colliding with a car at an intersection on the Tuscarora Indian Reservation last September. His 18-year-old passenger, reservation resident Brett McKee, was pinned under the SUV and died.

Zephier fled the scene but was later found at a nearby home.

He faces three to nine years in prison when he's sentenced.
