NEWFIELD, N.Y. (AP) — State police say they've charged a 19-year-old central New York man with manslaughter for a New Year's Eve crash that killed two people.
Troopers say they've also charged James Crosby of Van Etten with assault, reckless endangerment and reckless driving after he was indicted by a Tompkins County grand jury.
Police say Crosby was driving in the town of Newfield around 5 p.m. on Dec. 31 when he lost control of his car and hit an oncoming vehicle driven by a 31-year-old Spencer woman.
Crosby's passenger, 20-year-old Derek Nichols, was pronounced dead at the crash scene. A passenger in the other vehicle, 67-year-old Kathy Lattimore, was pronounced dead at Cortland Regional Medical Center.
Crosby was released after his arraignment. It couldn't immediately be determined if he has a lawyer.
