Lost dog found after roaming rural NY for 2 years

BATAVIA, N.Y. (AP) — A small dog that spent two years roaming a rural area in western New York after running away from its caretaker has been returned to its owner.

The Daily News of Batavia reports (http://bit.ly/1gEpbyO ) that Molly, Lhasa Apso-Shih Tzu mix, bolted from the rural Genesee County home of Ruth Bernhardt's daughter-in-law while Bernhardt was out of town.

The dog was spotted in local farm fields and yards, but attempts to corral the elusive pooch ended in failure until last weekend. That's when a woman in the town of Alabama spotted Molly and used a snowmobile and a blanket to catch her.

Molly was taken to the animal shelter in Batavia, where workers cut off five pounds of frozen, matted fur.

Bernhardt, who lives in Hamburg, near Buffalo, was reunited with Molly on Thursday.
