NEW YORK (AP) — Authorities say a third-grader walking to his New York City school on the last day before the winter holiday break has been hit and killed by a truck, and its driver has been arrested.
Police say 8-year-old Noshat Nahian was walking with his 11-year-old sister just before 8 a.m. Friday when the accident happened on busy Northern Boulevard in central Queens. He was about a block from his school, P.S. 152.
Police say a tractor-trailer's rear tires hit Noshat as it turned onto the boulevard.
Police have arrested the truck driver on a misdemeanor charge of driving on a suspended license. They identified him as 51-year-old Mauricio Osorio-Palominos.
No telephone number could immediately be found for the driver's Newark, N.J., home. It's unclear whether he has a lawyer.
