Moose hit by car on NYS parkway

CARMEL, N.Y. (AP) — New York State Police say that a moose was struck by a vehicle on the Taconic State Parkway.

It occurred at 4 p.m. Monday in an area that winds through a portion of Clarence Fahnestock State Parky, just north of Route 301 in Putnam County

Police say the moose's hind legs were broken and a trooper put down the animal.

According to the Journal News ( ), the driver apparently did not stop.

Most moose in Putnam and Westchester counties wander in from New England.
