NY Military Museum's WWII tank getting a makeover

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) — A World War II tank parked behind the New York State Military Museum for the past decade is getting a makeover.

The state Division of Military and Naval Affairs says the 69-year-old Sherman tank is being sent to Fort Drum in northern New York, where it will be stripped and repainted before it's put on display in front of the Saratoga Springs museum next year.

Museum staff and a crew from the New York National Guard will load the tank onto a flatbed truck Thursday morning for the trip north to Fort Drum.

The tank was one of more than 40,000 Shermans the U.S. produced during the Second World War.

The Military Museum's Sherman had been on display outside a state armory near Fort Drum for about 20 years.
