LOCKPORT, N.Y. (AP) — A World War II veteran from upstate New York is set to receive the French Legion of Honor medal.
State Sen. George Maziarz says 91-year-old Edward Kolek will be presented with the medal during a ceremony Thursday at the B. Leo Dolan American Legion Post in Lockport.
The Legion of Honor medal is the highest decoration given by France. It recognizes American veterans who fought in that country during the war.
Maziarz says Kolek piloted B-24s and B-29s in dozens of missions with the U.S. Army Air Corps.
