NEW YORK (AP) — A lawyer for a San Francisco resident accused of operating a secret black market website says the feds have the wrong man.
Defense attorney Joshua Dratel (dray-TEHL') represents Ross William Ulbricht.
He says Ulbricht is not the person who prosecutors say used the alias "Dread Pirate Roberts" while running the Silk Road website.
Dratel made the remarks following Ulbricht's first appearance in federal court in Manhattan. Ulbricht was arrested last month in San Francisco.
Authorities allege the 29-year-old was the mastermind behind a vast black market bazaar that brokered more than $1 billion in transactions for illegal drugs and services.
