PITTSFIELD, Mass. (AP) — A New York man has been sentenced to up to seven years in a Massachusetts prison after pleading guilty to raping a 13-year-old girl.

David Neyer, of Plattsburgh, N.Y., was sentenced Tuesday after pleading guilty to nine counts of felony rape and abuse of a child without force.

Prosecutors say the 25-year-old Neyer assaulted the girl in Pittsfield between July 24, 2012 and Sept. 2, 2012. Authorities say Neyer was a friend of the victim's family and knew her age.

The Berkshire Eagle ( ) reports that police responded to a city home in September 2012 after the victim told her family about the abuse and the family attacked Neyer.

Neyer's attorney agreed to the sentence.

He will be credited with the year he's spent behind bars since his arrest.
