NEW YORK (AP) — Officials say three small children are dead, including a 4-month-old baby, after a fire in a Bronx building just blocks from Yankee Stadium.
The New York Police Department said Friday a two-year-old boy, five-year-old boy and 4-month old boy were declared dead at Lincoln Medical Center. The NYPD says a 25-year-old female, 4-year-old female and 4-month-old female are in stable condition after being treated for smoke inhalation.
The FDNY said 25 units and 100 firefighters responded to the second-alarm blaze just before 8 p.m.
It said the fire originated in a second-floor apartment in a six-story multi-dwelling residential building.
The building's owner couldn't be reached for comment.
The FDNY said the building is about 10 blocks away from the site of a 2007 fire that killed 10, including 8 children.
