NY to demolish buildings on Albany campus

September 29, 2013
Associated Press

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — New York officials expect to spend about $2.3 million to demolish two buildings on the state's Harriman office in Albany.

The Office of General Services says there's no long-term viable use for the three-story buildings that were last occupied by civil service staff in 2005.

Commissioner RoAnn Destito says that will create a better option for possible redevelopment though there are no current plans.

The project is expected to start in January and finish in July, costing $1.4 million for demolition and $900,000 for removing asbestos.

The 167,000-square-foot building was built in 1956 and the 134,000-square-foot building was built in 1968.
