NEW YORK (AP) — A New York City livery cab driver was held up at gunpoint and locked in the trunk of the car after picking up a passenger who wanted to go to Albany.

Police say the passenger stole the driver's cell phone and money on Thursday morning.

They say he then locked the driver in the trunk after telling him to pull over at Exit 23 on the Saw Mill River Parkway.

WABC-TV ( ) says the driver was able to open the trunk using a safety latch and got out of the moving cab as it slowed down.

He suffered minor injuries.

Police later arrested the passenger, Robert Mizell, and charged him with kidnapping, criminal use of a firearm and other charges.
