YONKERS, N.Y. (AP) — An 86-year-old jail on the Hudson River waterfront in New York is for sale.
The two-story brick hoosegow on Alexander Street in Yonkers is listed at $2.5 million.
Yonkers Mayor Michael Spano said Wednesday that the property is prime real estate. The area around it has been developed in recent years.
City spokesman Jason Baker says inmates are being moved out on Sunday. He says scenes for a TV show are being shot at the jail next week.
The mayor says the old jail is being replaced by putting into use — for the first time — cells that were built 22 years ago as part of a new courthouse.
He says having prisoners closer to the courts will save overtime costs.
