NEW YORK (AP) — No more long lines and stacks of paperwork. The New York City kindergarten application is going digital.
Starting next year, parents will be able to rank their school choices and submit one online form.
The New York Times (http://nyti.ms/1g7wCwW ) says the Kindergarten Connection application will be on the Department of Education website.
Parents now have to fill out forms in person at each school they want their children to be considered for.
The online application was tested last year in three districts. It met with parents' approval.
Priority enrollment rules like preferential admission for siblings of currents students will not change.
All students are entitled to attend public schools in their districts. But many parents apply for magnet programs or other schools outside their neighborhoods.
