WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) — A hit man who admitted killing a Florida millionaire and his mother hopes his testimony against the millionaire's wife will keep his sentence under 30 years.
Alejandro Garcia is scheduled for sentencing Thursday afternoon.
He admitted helping to kill Ben Novack Jr. in a New York hotel room in 2009.
He also said he killed Bernice Novack at her Fort Lauderdale home a few months earlier.
Ben Novack's father built the Fontainebleau hotel in Miami Beach.
Garcia testified at the trial of Novack's wife, Narcy Novack, and her brother, Cristobal Veliz. They were convicted of arranging the killings and are serving life sentences.
Federal sentencing guidelines call for a 30-year sentence, but Garcia is asking for 15 years. Prosecutors have told the judge that Garcia's cooperation was extraordinary.
