NEW YORK (AP) — City Council Speaker Christine Quinn has congratulated her Democratic mayoral opponents.
In a concession speech Tuesday night, Quinn said that while she disagreed with her opponents on some issues, they all cared deeply about the city.
She also mentioned the historic possibility that she could have been both the first woman and openly gay person to become mayor of New York.
With 94 percent of precincts reporting, de Blasio has about 40 percent of the total vote. He needs to stay above 40 percent in order to avoid triggering an automatic runoff. If he can't, he will face Thompson, who has 26 percent.
Quinn was third at 15 percent, followed by current city Comptroller John Liu at 7 percent and Weiner at 5 percent.
