ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — Flags will fly at half-staff on all New York state buildings on Wednesday to honor a 24-year-old soldier who died in Afghanistan.
Army Staff Sgt. Michael Ollis of Staten Island was wounded when his forward operating base in Ghazni Province was attacked on Aug. 28. He was evacuated to a medical facility where he died.
Ollis was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment of the 10th Mountain Division's 1st Brigade Combat Team at Fort Drum.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo has directed that flags on all state buildings be lowered to half-staff in honor of each of the state's service members killed in action.
