WESTTOWN, N.Y. (AP) — A reward of up to $2,500 is being offered to help find the hit-and-run driver who killed an 86-year-old man as he checked his mailbox in front of his upstate New York home.
State police say Donald Wester was hit by a small silver sport utility vehicle around 5 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 26. Wester was standing at his mailbox on Route 1 in the Orange County hamlet of Westtown, near the New Jersey border 55 miles northwest of New York City.
Police say the SUV didn't stop as it headed toward Route 284.
Anyone with information is asked to call New York Crime Stoppers, which is offering the reward and working with state police. The hotline number is 866-313-8477.
